Privacy Policy

Introduction

This Privacy Policy by Groundwork explains how we collect, use, store, and protect your personal information when you use The Groundwork app and website. We take your privacy seriously — trust is the foundation of this community, and that extends to how we handle your data.

By creating an account or using The Groundwork, you agree to the practices described in this policy.

Information We Collect

We collect the following information:

  • Account information: your email address, display name, username, profile photo, and location (if you choose to provide it).
  • Content you create: posts, replies, direct messages, crisis room conversations, assessment responses, booking notes, and feedback submissions.
  • Usage data: the features you use, how long you spend in the app, which spaces and rooms you visit, and other interaction data.
  • Device information: your device type, operating system, browser type, IP address, and unique device identifiers.
  • Payment information: if you subscribe to a paid tier, your payment is processed by Stripe. We do not store your full card number — only the last four digits and billing information returned by Stripe.

How We Use Your Information

We use your information to:

  • Provide, maintain, and improve the app experience.
  • Personalize your feed, space recommendations, and resource suggestions.
  • Send notifications you have opted into.
  • Enforce our community guidelines and keep the platform safe for all members.
  • Process payments and manage subscriptions.
  • Respond to your support requests and feedback.
  • Analyze usage patterns to improve the product.

We Do Not Sell Your Data

We do not sell your personal data to third parties. Ever. We do not use your data for advertising purposes. We do not share your data with anyone except as described in this policy.

Crisis Room Privacy

Conversations in Brotherhood Crisis Rooms are treated with the highest level of sensitivity. We do not display crisis room conversations publicly, include them in feed recommendations, or use them for product analytics beyond basic usage counts.

Moderators assigned to a crisis room can see messages in that room for safety and moderation purposes. If a message is reported, our moderation team will review it.

In situations where we believe there is an imminent and credible risk to someone's life, we reserve the right to share relevant information with emergency services or authorities. This is a rare and last-resort measure taken only to protect human life.

Data Storage and Security

Your data is stored securely using Supabase, hosted on Amazon Web Services (AWS) infrastructure. We use industry-standard encryption for data in transit (TLS) and at rest. Access to user data is restricted to authorized personnel only.

We retain your data for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, your personal data — including posts, messages, and assessment results — is permanently removed within 30 days. Some aggregate, anonymized data may be retained for product improvement purposes.

Your Rights

You have the right to:

  • Access: request a copy of all data we hold about you (available from Settings).
  • Correction: update your information at any time from your profile and settings.
  • Deletion: permanently delete your account and all associated data from Settings — Account Actions — Delete Account.
  • Portability: request a downloadable copy of your data from Settings — Account Actions — Download My Data.
  • Opt-out: unsubscribe from email communications at any time using the link in any email we send.
