About The Groundwork
The Groundwork is a men's mental health and community app built around a simple belief — that men should not have to carry the weight of their lives alone. We built the space that was missing. The one where real brotherhood happens, real conversations are had, and real support is always one tap away.
The Problem We Are Solving
The statistics are not abstract. Men account for nearly 80 percent of suicide deaths in the United States. They are less likely to seek help, less likely to have close friendships, and more likely to suffer in silence until a crisis forces the issue. Not because they do not want connection — but because the spaces for it have never been built with them in mind.
Therapy feels clinical. Social media feels performative. The barbershop conversation is real, but rare. And when life gets genuinely heavy — grief, financial pressure, fatherhood, isolation, identity — most men have nowhere to put it that feels safe.
That gap is not an accident. It is a design failure. And The Groundwork is the fix.
You don't have to carry this alone. The Groundwork is where men don't have to.
— The Groundwork
Our Mission
The Groundwork exists to give men a space where honesty is welcome, struggle is not shameful, and support is always accessible. We are not a therapy app. We are not a hotline. We are a community — and a platform — built to meet men where they are and walk with them toward where they want to be.
Our mission is to reduce the isolation that kills men quietly and replace it with something real: connection, accountability, and the kind of brotherhood that makes hard things survivable.
That is not a tagline. That is the only reason The Groundwork exists.
Our Values
01
No highlight reels. No fronting. The Groundwork is built for men who are willing to show up honestly — and that starts with us.
02
The spaces we build are only as powerful as the safety within them. Crisis access, moderation, and confidentiality are not features — they are the foundation.
03
Community is free. Support is built in. No man should be priced out of belonging, and no man should face a crisis without a resource to reach for.
04
We believe men are not fixed — they are becoming. The Groundwork is built to support that becoming at every stage, from the first honest conversation to a full life plan.
05
The men in this community shape what The Groundwork becomes. Every piece of feedback is read. Every voice matters. We build this together.
06
Technology is the vehicle, not the destination. The real work happens between men — in the conversations, the crisis rooms, the check-ins, and the moments that no algorithm can manufacture.
Why This Work Matters
Men's mental health is one of the most underfunded, underserved, and misunderstood areas of public health. The combination of cultural stigma, limited access to culturally relevant care, and the absence of peer support infrastructure creates a crisis that does not make headlines — until it does.
We are not naive about what an app can and cannot do. The Groundwork does not replace therapy, does not substitute for crisis intervention, and does not pretend that community alone solves everything. But it closes a gap that has been wide open for too long. It gives men somewhere to go before the crisis. Somewhere to process. Somewhere to belong.
The research is clear — social connection is one of the most powerful predictors of mental health outcomes. The Groundwork is built on that truth. Every space, every room, every resource, every conversation is designed to make connection easier, more honest, and more consistent for men who need it most.
This is not a side project. This is the work.
Our Purpose
To build a world where no man faces his hardest moments alone. Where brotherhood is accessible — not just to those who grew up with it, not just to those who can afford it, not just to those who already know how to ask for help. To every man. At every stage. In every season of life.
That is the purpose behind every decision we make. Every feature we build. Every word we write. Every crisis room we moderate and every specialist we bring on board.
The Groundwork is not coming to fix men. Men are not broken. They are carrying more than they should have to — alone. We are here to change that.
